In this article I want to show you a secret you can use to have a single Metatrader 4 or 5 always in sync, with the latest changes, on different computers.
Want to discover how? It’s all due to the use of simple network program, called DROPBOX. But let’s start from the beginning.
Those who work with the Metatrader 4 or 5, are often forced to use them in different places and on different workstations, and every time a chart is added, or an indicator, a parameter, we are obliged to make the change manually in all the locations in which we work.
By using the program Dropbox, which you can download for free, we can finally overcome this problem and allow the system to synchronize all the changes for us.
Warnings before proceeding:
A) Close the Metatrader.
B) Be sure to remember your user name and password of the broker account we want to replicate.
C) Every time you will turn of your computer you will need to close the Synched Metatrader, and wait for DropBox to complete his synchronization.
If you already use Drop Box on your PC you can skip to step 9.
First we download the free program from this link: Dropbox
1) Click on “Run”.
2) Select the first choice and click “Next”.
3) Enter a valid email, a password of your choice, and the name of your computer (even invented) and click “Next”.
4) Select the first choice “2GB” and click “Next”.
5) By default the program Dropbox will be installed in your user’s Documents folder, but you can chose to install it in another folder, and then click “Next”.
6) Select the first choice and click “Next”.
7) Click on “Skip Tour”.
8) Click “Finish”.
9) Right click the MT4 icon on your desktop, go on the properties, and select “Open File Location”, so you can quickly find where your MT4 folder is.
10) Check if your Metratrader is closed, and simply copy (ctrl+V) the entire installation folder of the program you want to replicate in all your PC.
11) Paste the entire folder in the Drop Box on your computer.
12) The operation has ended. Now you can decide if access to the MT4 via the “Terminal” icon in the Drop Box folder, or if you want to create a desktop shortcut of this “Terminal” icon for convenience.
13) Install Drop Box in all the PCs on which you want this synched Metatrader to be available, and repeat the steps from 1 to 9, and the then the step 12.
14) Start the Metatrader, enter name and password.
A) Can I use this Drobox to synchronize other kink of file and data? Yes. Just taking care not to saturate the available space in the Dropbox.
B) Can I use the Synched Metatrader to backtest an EA? No. Highly not recommended because the historical and test file can be very large and occupy all the Dropbox space.
C) Can I use simultaneously the Synched Metatrader on different locations? Yes and No. To close or to open the Metatrader on different computers can create conflicted files and uselessly occupied space, even if not due to a corruption of the Metatrader.
D) If I forget to close the Metatrader or I don’t wait for the synchronization to be completed, what happen? The program will continue to work properly on all the locations, but the latest changes may not have been synchronized and then not be available.
That’s it!!!
Now you can enjoy your Metatrader, with all you costumizations, anytime, enywhere, on any computer you want!
